Once the tank was installed onto my stand, and everyone left. I took a close look at the tank. It was a bright sunny, but cold December day. In the lower left corner of the tank I see a glitter line catching my eye. I looked at it carefully -- it was a crack!! Ahhahah!!! I couldn't believe it. After waiting 12+ weeks to get this into my dinning room the tank had a crack.

I called PetCo. the terrible place I got the tank from. They pretty much didn't care and said call the manufacture. They were nice enough to give me the phone number. I called Oceanic Systems, Inc. at 1-800-554-6229. The first person I talked to said I need to take this up with the Pet Store I got it from. I said I did, they sent me to the distributor (Central Pets of New Jersey) and they sent me directly to you.

She must have took pitty on me because she decided to listen to the details: It's a small crack (1 1/4 inch in size) about 6 inches from the lower left cornor of the tank. The glass in question is on the verticle pane of glass right where it meets the base plate of glass. The crack is under caulk sealer. The crack is circular in nature and seems to be on the inner surface of the glass. When looking at the pane of glass from the side (the green side) I can see light refracting from this crack. This rep could not tell me if I needed to get a new tank or not. She said to hold on....

The next person, a nice southern gentleman also couldn't help me out either. He said to hold...

Finally, Jeff Waters, the CEO of Oceanic Systems, Inc. took the time to talk to me. Jeff explained that this is called a "C-Crack" and is very common in large glass tanks. He said although the crack did not happen at the factory it is from the manufacturing process. When the glass is cut, a small "flare" in the edge was left on the glass. The 1/2" inch thick vertical glass pane is then laid on the base glass with caulking. Stress from shipping applied pressure to the flare and the glass around the flare chipped away. He apologized saying they are not normally seen, but that these "C-Cracks" are normal and in no-way effect the performance of the tank. He was nice enough to even ask what I planned on doing with the tank and asked how I felt about the tank.

I sure hope he is right....
