Iwaki MD55RLT Pressure Pump Iwaki MD55RLT Pressure Pump I used to use a MAK4 Pump to power my skimmer but after a year or so I felt that skimmer was under powered for an ETS 800 Skimmer. I then upgraded to this pump a Iwaki MD55RLT and I have gotten much better performance from the skimmer. There are American made and Japanese made versions of these pumps. A pump with "MD" shows it is Japanese made, a "WMD" shows it is American made. Unfortunately the American made pumps are of a much poorer quality than the Japanese pumps. The Japanese pumps are smaller, quieter, and run cooler. I wish it wasn't so, I don't like to bash products made here in USA. Iwaki pumps also come in circulation versions and pressure versions. "LT" are for circulation, "RLT" are for pressure applications. An ETS 800 skimmer puts considerable back pressure on a pump and that is the main reason the MAK4 pump had performance issues.
