Blue Tip Table Acropora sp.

Blue Tip Table Acropora (Acropora sp.), just added to display tank. Picture taken September 2005, Nikon D70 Digital SLR, Sigma 105mm Macro lens This is a unidentified species of acropora shows excellent polyp extension. I even observed polyp extension while the coral was still sitting in the bag. This coral was sold as Acropora hyacinthus which can not be confirmed. I really love the shape of this coral.

Picture taken October 2005, Nikon D70 Digital SLR, Sigma 105mm Macro lens This picture is taken under four 24w power compact blue “actinic” bulbs. These are not true actinic bulbs which are much more purple. UPDATE: During October and November 2005 this coral stopped expanding polyps. After a few days I noticed some tissue recession. This colony was broken into approximately 10 sections. Over the following two weeks, 8 of them lost all tissue. Two remaining held out a little longer before being lost.
