Purple Montipora digitata
Picture was taken in January 2000 with a Nikon CoolPix 950 Digital Camera, No Flash

Obtained October 11th, 1999.

This is a frag of Montipora digitata commonly called a Velvet Finger Coral from Jim Fox's tank (aka MiNdErAsR). He has a monster sized colony the grows right up to the water surface. This frag has already encrusted the epoxy used to hold it in place and it has regrown over dead spaces on the skeleton. It has done little vertical growth since I've gotten it. However this is changing. You can see several bright purple growth tips starting to show.

The colony as pictured is less than 2 inches long and less than 2 inches high.

This is the coral four months later. You can see it has clearly doubled in height and is much wider at the base with several new bramches emerging.

This coral was killed by mushrooms.
